Terpy

Frequently asked questions

What Terpy is, how it works, and what an account adds.

What does Terpy offer?

A strain advisor chat, a searchable strain index with terpene and effect data, similarity search that finds strains close to one you already like, and reference pages on terpenes and cannabinoids.

How does it work?

Every strain record is stored with a vector embedding, so the chat can look up real entries instead of writing an answer from memory. When you ask a question, the model calls database tools for names, terpene percentages, effects and lineage, then answers from what it found. Source URLs are shown where a record has them.

What do I get from signing up?

Your chat history syncs across devices, your preferences are saved, and your message quota goes from 5 to 50 messages per day. Sign-in is Google OAuth, no password to manage.

Can I not just use ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude?

You can, but a general chatbot has no cannabis-specific index to check itself against, so it invents terpene percentages and lineages that sound plausible. Terpy answers from curated strain records with per-strain terpene, effect and intensity data. When a strain is not in the index, it says so rather than filling the gap.

Where does the data come from?

Publicly available strain listings, seed bank catalogues and scientific literature. Strain characteristics vary with phenotype and growing conditions, so treat the numbers as typical ranges, not guarantees. More detail is on the about page.

Do you sell cannabis?

No. Terpy is an informational database and does not sell, distribute or arrange the sale of cannabis or any controlled substance. Nothing here is medical advice, and cannabis law differs by jurisdiction.
